Nostalgia on Facebook: Cartoons of Childhood

I do not know where it started. I just received 2 days ago a post on my facebook wall saying, “Change your facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until monday(Dec.6) there should be no human faces on facebook, but an invasion of memories. This is for violence against children“.

I thought its a great idea. Some of my friends already changed theirs to cartoon characters. But the full force began yesterday. Every time I hit the refresh button, 2 or 3 or 4 of my facebook friends have changed their profile pictures to cartoon characters from way back when.

it’s really cool seeing long lost cartoons brought back by a message about violence against children. I never thought I would see again. Characters such as The Space Ghost, The Captain Planet, Popeye, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, Top Cat, Swat Cats, Wildcats, Thundarr the Barbarian, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, The Birdman, Dynomutt the Dog Wonder, Droopy, Peter Potamus, Pixie and Dixie, Richie Rich, The Mighty Mightor, Johnny Quest, Quick Draw McDraw, Squidly Diddly, and many more. These were the cartoons that made my childhood really memorable. I’d fight for the TV for these guys.

These cartoon characters were from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and the 90’s. And yes, they still showed it until my generation. Maalala pa nga nila mommy and daddy yung some of the cartoons na minention ko kasi yun din yung sa kanila dati. Comparing what we have now to what we have before. Siguro mas gusto ko yung dati. Yung naa-appreciate ko pa yung cartoons. Yun na kasi ang kinalakihan kong cartoons eh. Ngayon, yung mga cartoons ngayon, i find them non-sense. Just like Spongebob, Shawn the Sheep, Upin and Ipin, Dora the Explorer. WTF?!  They don’t compare.

Pero sige lang. Refreshing lang talaga sigurong makita yung mga dating kinagigiliwan, kinaaaliwan nating cartoons. Nakakamiss yung medyo iniisip lang natin kung saan tayo mag lalaro, yung 1+1 lang. Yung di pa masyadong complicated ang buhay, pero we need to grow up and learn our responsibilities.
